Enlightened Design – celebrating light and lightness in design

Forget about the marvels of Cologne’s Christmas market, with its enchanting and fairylike atmosphere produced by thousands of lights. Instead, look a little further, at those who transcend daily life through immaculate design. With 2018 on the horizon, Connecting the Dots is preparing a design exhibition with light as its sole focus, at the imm cologne between 15 and 21 January. Under the name Enlightened Design the exposition showcases five distinctive Dutch design studios: Atelier Arnout Visser, Bernotat&Co, Studio Çedille Design, a-LEX, and By Marc de Groot. A feast for the eye in the best possible setting, with pitch-black, intimate spaces that are in stark contrast with the light objects on show and the buzz of the trade show that surrounds them.

Enlightened Design imm cologne is the follow-up to two successful design shows during the London Design Festival in 2016 and 2017. Connecting the Dots brings the intimate setting of the exhibitions in London to the international design fair in Germany. The works of the five studios celebrate diversity in light design, each adding a distinctive signature. Atelier Arnout Visser presents Big Mushrooms, Bernotat&Co presents Radiolaria Lights, Studio Çedille Design presents Light ZUID, a-LEX presents LAMP ovals and angles, and b y Marc de Groot presents Fractal.

Following Cologne, the exhibition will travel to Amsterdam where a reprise of the show will be held at Lensvelt Contract Furniture from 25 until 28 January.

Enlightened Designed is an initiative of Connecting the Dots and has been made possible in close cooperation with imm cologne, Aukes Theatertechniek and Lensvelt Contract Furniture.

Enlightened Design is located between hall 2 and 3 of the IMM Cologne. A dedicated space close to the presentations of Brokis, Louis Poulsen, Vitra, Artek, Norr 11, Menu, e15 Thonet, and Piet Hein Eek.
